A native of La Crosse, WI, Dr. David Gundersen has called Madison home for many years. Before pursuing dentistry, he built a career focused on improving the health of children and families, including leading Wisconsin’s School Health Programs and the Wisconsin Tobacco Control Board. He also spent several years as a health teacher. His commitment to improving the health of others ultimately led him to Marquette University School of Dentistry, where he earned his Doctor of Dental Surgery degree.

Dr. Gundersen’s passion for dentistry extends well beyond the walls of the dental office. Throughout his career, he has been an advocate for improving access to oral healthcare across Wisconsin and has served in leadership roles with numerous state and local health and dental organizations. 

Community service remains especially important to Dr. Gundersen. He volunteers his time providing dental care to those in need and founded the Verona Smiles Initiative, a community partnership created to help ensure students in the Verona Area School District have access to necessary dental care.

Outside of dentistry, Dr. Gundersen enjoys traveling, reading, watching movies, cycling, hiking, sailing, and cross-country skiing. His creativity extends to writing as well. Under the pen name Davie Fletcher, he is the author of two children’s books, Blacktooth and Dentina.
